'I will get married this year'

doweshowbellyad=0; Gitanjali Tikekar. (TOI Photo)Besides shooting for a couple of shows, many things are happening Gitanjali Tikekar ’s life. On the personal front, she has decided to tie the knot with her boyfriend Sikander Kharbanda.
But the date has not been fixed as yet. Gitanjali says, “Since we both are so busy we have not had the time to decide a date, but it will definitely happen this year.” Ask her whether she wants an elaborate wedding and she quips, “I want a two-day grand affair.We don’t have more than that to spare for the wedding ceremonies.” And she is a little anxious too. “Like any other girl there are times when I get a little anxious and nervous and then Sikander calms me down. But I am also looking forward to it. It’s a mixed feeling.”
On the work front, things are going great for her. She is doing a show for a channel called Jersey No 10 where she is playing a physiotherapist. She says, “It is a good change to play a character I can relate to. I am happy with the show, which is a take off from movies like Chak De! India and Goal. The best part for me is that I can play a young character again. Otherwise I was only doing roles of mothers.” So does she miss playing Aparna Basu in Kasautii Zindagii Kay? “Well Aparna gave me my identity, people started recognising me because of that role, but it was a character I could not relate to.”
But unlike other television actresses she has no plans to enter in Bollywood. She says, “I know where I stand and I know my limitations. I don’t want to act in movies because I am not comfortable with certain things. So it is better that I don’t try my hand at it at all.”
Gitanjali has consciously cut down on work because she wants to enjoy life. She says, “I was going crazy shooting at a stretch for 15-16 hours and doing multiple shifts. I have been badly wanting to cut down on work and have a life for some time now. I have finally managed to do just that.” And during her time off, she loves to read, paint and also looks after her clothes store, which she opened last year. In short, Gitanjali is enjoying life and the time before she settles down into matrimony.
